Is Cone-Beam Computed Tomography an Essential Diagnostic Tool for Endodontic Practice?

چکیده
Submit Manuscript | http://medcraveonline.com It is with a certain degree of trepidation that this essayist begins, knowing the weight of evidence that is required to declare that something is essential. Can Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) really break free from the lowly ranks of the useful, and join the upper echelons of the absolutely necessary? If so, it seems as though endodontic treatment to this point, which has been carried out without this technology since the early 20th century, would be dishonourably discharged to the title of little more than pre-extraction treatment. From the outset, this would seem like an unfair dismissal indeed, but nevertheless, the evidence needs to be examined.

Diagnostic Accuracy of Different Resolutions of Cone Beam Computed Tomography Imaging System for Detection of Vertical Root Fractures In Presence of Casting Posts
Objective: The diagnosis of vertical root fracture (VRF) in endodontically treated teeth is a clinical challenge due to lack of specific clinical and radiographic signs. Although radiographic evaluation such as CBCT is helpful, intracanal posts can produce artifacts and may impair the quality of CBCT scans. This study aimed to compare the diagnostic accuracy of different resolutions of CBCT i...

Introduction: The aim of this study was to investigate the accuracy of Cone-beam computed tomography(CBCT) in detecting the horizontal root fractures (HRFs) in teeth with and without gutta-percha. Materials & Methods: This in vitro study was performed on 100 mandibular and maxillary single-rooted teeth. In 55 samples, the canals were prepared. Then, the horizontal fracture was induced randomly...
متن کاملThe Role of Cone Beam Computed Tomography in Dental Practice: An Endodontic Case Report
We aim to present a case of obliterated root canal which was successfully treated in our dental faculty using these new techniques. Teeth with calcified root canals referred for endodontic treatment pose pa rticular diagnostic and treatment challenges. Usually these are intact traumatized anterior teeth without symptoms except of slight discoloration, without apical radiolucency. The thorough k...
متن کاملCone Beam Computed Tomography Assisted Endodontic Management of a Rare Case of Mandibular First Premolar with Three Roots
Understanding the morphological anatomy of the root and root canal systems of the teeth increases the success rate of endodontic therapy. Advanced diagnostic imaging techniques like cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) are an essential aid in understanding the anatomy of teeth especially in mandibular premolars. Most commonly mandibular first and second premolars have a single root and a single...
متن کاملMultidisciplinary management of a Fused Maxillary lateral incisor using Cone Beam CT as a diagnostic aid: a Case Report
Successful clinical management of teeth with odontogenic anomalies is quite challenging. Fusion can be defined as a union of two separate tooth buds at some stage in their development. This case report describes a multidisciplinary approach involving endodontic and restorative considerations for a successful, functional and esthetic rehabilitation of fused tooth using cone beam computed tomogra...
